News from Ministry Division re Title Posts - September 2009

As a result of concern about placement for curacy and some apparent mismatch between numbers of candidates and places available, Ministry Division held a round table meeting in July 2009 with Diocesan Reps, DDOs, relevant Ministry Division staff and AOCM representation. This meeting has led to constructive proposals for a more dynamic sharing of information about title posts, particularly for those released by their home Diocese.

At a meeting of AOCM representatives with Ministry Division on 2nd September 2009 it was confirmed that the plans for website sharing of information are being progressed and the practicalities assessed in readiness for implementation. Further news will be made available via this website as soon as the Ministry Division plans are ready to go live….

In the meantime, keep looking - title post pages are still being produced in the old format as before… contact your course/institution for details… if they haven’t already contacted you. If you have not yet been found a place by your sponsoring Diocese you should have been told whether they are releasing you as the deadline for release was 31st October. Talk to your DDO about this asap if you are still waiting to hear…

Other options: things that people have done in the last couple of years if they did not find a title post here…

Defer a year and do something else in between times eg an extra year’s course, some pastoral work… go and travel - none of this stops you applying for title next year and may give you more experience and flexibility next time around…

Seek title abroad - three people last year found curacies in various parts of Africa… you will need to talk to your Diocese about this but if your circumstances allow and you are up for it, what an amazing way to start your ministry!
